A presentation for an art history class at SCAD. Done in the style of Yahtzee’s Zero Punctuation reviews (sort of). I have no idea how he makes one of these every week. Made to be presented on screen in the classroom.

I feel that The Metal Gear Solid Series has had both excellent graphics and an excellent story line. I do not own a game or know of a game that actually has had me invest emotion in the characters the way I have in MGS. I believe it is the best series there is for storytelling.

AAA+ who are you man? you could kick foamys ass in a rant. when i buy games i have not bought any games that are just shooters (with the only exception of the original QUAKE which i love ♥♥♥) i have bought games that do have complex stories and require to pay attention so i try not to be part of the problem.

psychonauts was amazing. I haven’t played it in years, but it was very memorable. This made me feel nostalgic. I remember, “Get bent, commie!”. So funny.

Yes. People play Final Fantasy for the “action” :l. Sarcasm alert.

most gamers don’t care about the story. movies are made for stories. they want the fun fun fun out of them

I thought Okami had AMAZING an story. It’s a shame that such a great like that didn’t do so well. It was like Zelda, but done better.

i soo wanna shoot something right now! time for some DOOM

CaptainMcRed February 7, 2010 at 6:29 pm

Ok, that’s a little harsh. I find the amount of people who simply write off stories in games altogether with comments like the often repeated “Just watch a move” to be disheartening. Games don’t NEED compelling stories, but ignoring games potential as a story telling method in a pretty terrible thing to do. Good writing can really ramp up the atmosphere which is something video games can do better then film.

CaptainMcRed February 8, 2010 at 8:26 am

You and your kind are terrible people.

Monzyboy February 10, 2010 at 2:35 am

after 5 minz.. i was like zzzzz

i only play TF2 and stuf.. thers no story in those games.. so fuck stories, go watch a movie if u want a good story

thespartans25 February 11, 2010 at 8:22 pm

mass effect had a pretty good story

Krazer2100 February 14, 2010 at 11:20 am

amazing review. there has also been good writing and dialogue in the grand theft auto games. who agrees?

Infern4l February 17, 2010 at 8:11 pm

The problem seems to be that all the new generation of gamers want is GRAPHICS and SHIT THAT BLOWS UP…they dont care about content or a good thought provoking story..they want to shoot things till they stop moving

zigguaurt8 February 19, 2010 at 6:36 pm

resident evils dialogue has been bad and cheesy from the begining. now its not so bad but its pretty cheesy, but i really like the story and gameplay.

FezzingtonBear1 February 21, 2010 at 4:53 am

definately. although in the specific case of metal gear, hideo kojima needs an editor not a writer, because some of his ideas are genuinely brilliant.

Aaron72591 February 23, 2010 at 8:41 pm

Yeah they just need to get better writers.

Halooverlord February 25, 2010 at 10:10 pm

I really like his voice. just the right amount of nerd for me to listen to him

FezzingtonBear1 February 26, 2010 at 2:21 pm

Metal gear would be, to use the description in this video, a step in the right direction but not actually that brilliant; it has some mature themes, an investment into the story and characters, but unfortunately the series is relatively badly written overall, despite splashes of brilliance. the original metal gear solid was brilliant and i enjoyed the story and i like the sequels, but in metal gear solid 2 the plot is confused and mishandled, though individual elements of it shine.
